For junior management major Summer Shaw, the Clemson Experience is about more than classrooms, curriculum and careers.

The Duncan, S.C., native has endeavored to get involved as an intern and activist in an effort at leaving Clemson University in a better state for those who follow in her footsteps.

“My non-curricular activities have helped me in a variety of ways. First, they’ve taught me how to better manage my time,” Summer said. “But as important as anything, what I’m learning outside the classroom has taught me how to lead with integrity and developed strong intercultural skills, something that will benefit me personally, and later on, professionally.”

In addition to her Supply Chain Management curriculum, Summer is actively involved in Clemson Undergraduate Student Government (CUSG) as director of the Council of Diversity Affairs and serves as a student representative on President Clements’ Social Justice and Equity Task Force. And,

Colorado Springs business owners react to increased COVID restrictions | Colorado Springs News

On Monday, Colorado health officials said El Paso County must move to “red” severe risk status for COVID-19, effective Friday evening, a change that closes restaurants for indoor dining, and reduces offices and gyms to 10% capacity.

Aaron Kaufman, manager of Accolade Fitness, said the gym would “take 10% over 0%,” referencing the capacity that will be allowed come Friday evening.

“I feel a lot of this was expected — not if, but when,” Kaufman said of the level “red” restrictions. “We were prepared for it. It’s something we’ve been discussing, even before the orange level.”

Kaufman said the gym at 4390 Arrowswest Drive will remain open, through a reservation system required by public health order still needs to be worked out. The gym’s westside location on South 8th Street closed Nov. 15 due to the cost of running two gyms.

Business Seems To Have Used Covid To Clean House In Fundamental Ways

Productivity – output per hour – surged during the summer quarter. That should hardly surprise.  After spring’s lockdowns and quarantines, the leap in business activity that accompanied the summer re-opening brought idle resources back on line with all the attendant efficiencies associated with such trends. According to the Department of Commerce, all business output expanded at a dramatic 43.7% annual rate during the summer months, while hours worked expanded at a still strong but much slower 35.1% rate.  Output per hour accordingly jumped at an historically strong 6.4% annual rate.

If all this news seems straightforward enough (except of course the drama of the large numbers), the detail of the Commerce Department report reveals something truly unusual: businesses seem to have used the time of lockdown and quarantine
