Trump Will Sign McConnell’s New Stimulus Proposal Without Checks Or State And Local Aid

Topline

As stimulus discussions heat up in Washington again, Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin told reporters Wednesday that President Trump is prepared to sign a new stimulus proposal put forth by Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) on Tuesday.

Key Facts

“The President will sign the McConnell proposal that he put forward yesterday,” Mnuchin said, according to Reuters.

McConnell’s proposal is similar to two $500 billion bills he has already attempted to pass in the Senate (Democrats blocked both on the grounds that they were too small), and includes $257 billion in spending for the popular Paycheck Protection Program for forgivable loans, a one-month extension of the Pandemic Unemployment Assistance program, and liability protections for businesses and healthcare providers.

Small Business Saturday a success for local Denver businesses

Some local small businesses had their busiest day since the shutdown in the spring.

DENVER — Small Business Saturday, which took place Nov. 28, provided a glimpse of hope for some local small businesses around Denver.

Jimmy Funkhouser, owner of Feral “indie outdoor shop” on Tennyson Street, said Saturday was the busiest day they had had since the shutdown in the spring.

“We knew if we had a bad Small Business Saturday, it was going to be a really long holiday season,” Funkhouser said. “So, having a good day that day at least leaves open the possibility that there might be some good things ahead.”

He said the real test for how well small businesses do this holiday season starts after the hype of Small Business Saturday and Cyber Monday sales.

“I think we’re all feeling the same thing, like, what happens now that the hype is gone and the

Norwood Hosts Norwood Day 2020 to Support Local Businesses

NORWOOD, MA — Norwood released video of its successful new rendition of Norwood Day 2020, which tied into Small Business Saturday.

Norwood Day is usually held annually in September and features family activities such as live local entertainment, games, prizes, sidewalk sales and more. As the traditional Norwood Day event usually brings more than 10,000 people to the town, the event was canceled due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

It was decided to tie Norwood Day 2020 in with “Small Business Saturday,” which the Friends of Norwood Center group has been organizing for nearly a decade.

“We knew we just couldn’t bring that many people together like we normally do,” General Manager Tony Mazzucco said. “There was definitely a sense of loss here in the community among the town staff and volunteers. We decided on an alternative that would tie in with ‘Small Business Saturday’ as a way to encourage

Looking for local gift ideas this holiday season?

Buying local is more important than ever, and this holiday season there’s one guide that can help you find Michigan-made products for anyone on your list.

Lisa Diggs, the founder of the Buy Michigan Now campaign, spoke with Jason about what kind of products you can expect to find on their gift guide.

Buy Michigan Now releases a gift guide every year, and this year because of the pandemic, they’ve included more than 200 items across 20 different categories. If nothing on the list calls your name, you’re not out of luck. All the items link back to the business’ website where you can check out all the products they have available.

Diggs started with some of the food based gifts you can find on the guide, including nut brittle from Granny’s Confections in Howell.

If you’d rather have someone put everything together for you, you can get a basket

Local treasures at the virtual “Northwest Made Holiday Market”

The market brings together a community of 60+ vendors from the Portland-metro area, featuring local BIPOC and women entrepreneurs and businesses.

PORTLAND, Ore. — Friends always knew Komi Nugloze had an eye for fashion design. “Every time we would go somewhere they’d say ‘Oh, you like to dress up, you need to be a designer and create some clothes for us’ and it started like that,” said Nugloze.

His business started in his homeland of Togo in West Africa. At 18 years old, he started sewing and traveled all over West Africa to sell his designs. Five years ago, Nugloze brought his passion for fashion to downtown Portland with N’kossi Boutique.

“I’m trying to use African fabric to adapt to the regular clothes everybody can wear,” explained Nugloze. He uses African fabric to make custom one-of-a-kind pieces and also sells jewelry made in Togo.

This year his business suffered a

Small Business Saturday sees local success in Tampa Bay

Tampa Bay shopped local over the weekend to help small businesses during what’s been a difficult year.

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — The pandemic has made for a tough year for small businesses. Many had to shut down or haven’t been able to get recover.

Small Business Saturday was over the weekend. It went better than expected — that’s what the group LocalShops 1 is hearing from businesses. LocalShops1 advocates for small businesses in and around St Petersburg.

Typically on Small Business Saturday, it hosts “Shopapalooza,” which is a massive small business shopping festival, one of the largest local events in the country. That obviously wouldn’t work this year with COVID.

So instead, it hosted the Shop Small Holiday Market in Gulfport.

There were more than 100 local businesses that set up shop, socially distanced of course.

Patrick Largo with LocalShops1 says traffic was steady all throughout the day and vendors
